Hubballi: In an act of self-defense, Town Police Inspector Rafiq Tahsildar fired at the notorious rowdy, Satish Gona, 40, as per the statement by Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar.

Speaking to HUBLI EXPRESS, Renuka explained that Satish is a highly notorious rowdy wanted in several cases, including kidnapping and attempted murder. He posed a significant threat to society, and the police had been searching for him for the last one and a half years as he remained in hiding.

Upon receiving information that Satish was in Hubballi, the police went to arrest him. However, at the Gateway Bar on Gadag Road, he fiercely resisted arrest and attacked the police. One officer suffered head injuries from a stone thrown by Satish, and another had his shirt torn. Despite the confrontation, the police managed to overpower him and took him into custody.

Subsequently, the police discovered that Satish had sharp weapons at his residence. They took him to his house on Mantur Road to recover the weapons, but he once again attacked, pushing the inspector and attempting to escape. In response, the police, as a warning, fired two rounds into the air. However, Satish persisted in his attempt to flee. The inspector, aiming for his leg, fired a shot, leading to his immediate transport to KIMS for observation. He will soon be produced before the court, Commissioner Renuka assured.

Sources revealed that Satish had been in Srishail for the last one and a half years and worked as a server in a hotel at the holy pilgrimage site. The police had been actively searching for him during this period. Satish was implicated in a case involving the arson of a house one and a half years ago, and the police were in the process of bringing him before the court in connection with that incident.
